Ingredients

For the Wings:
  • 2 pounds chicken wings
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar plus 1 teaspoon, light or dark
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 6 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper plus 1 teaspoon
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce or tamari (for gluten-free wings)
  • Chopped green onions for garnish
  • Prepared Greek Yogurt Ranch Dip for serving (optional)

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Wire rack
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Kitchen Tongs

Method

Cooking Steps:
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the low-sodium soy sauce (or tamari), brown sugar, honey, minced garlic, and freshly ground black pepper. Whisk the ingredients together until well blended, and the sugar has dissolved.
  2. Add the chicken wings to the marinade, ensuring each wing is thoroughly coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight for maximum flavor.
  3. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). This high temperature is key to achieving crispy wings.
  4. Line the baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup and place a wire rack on top. The wire rack will allow hot air to circulate around the wings, making them crispy.
  5. Remove the wings from the marinade, letting any excess liquid drip off. Arrange them in a single layer on the wire rack, ensuring they are not touching. This helps with even cooking and crispiness.
  6. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 40-45 minutes, flipping the wings halfway through the cooking time. Keep an eye on them to ensure they reach a beautiful golden color and are crispy to your liking.
  7. Once the wings are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve with prepared Greek Yogurt Ranch Dip, if desired.

Notes

  • For extra crispy wings, broil them for the last 2-3 minutes of cooking, but watch closely to avoid burning.
  • If you prefer, you can use chicken drumsticks instead of wings for a different texture.
  • Feel free to adjust the amount of garlic and pepper to suit your taste preferences.
