Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil (or your choice of vegetable, canola, sunflower, grapeseed, or olive oil)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon chipotle chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt , plus more for garnishing if desired
  • 8 small corn tortillas each measuring 5 to 6 inches, cut into 6 triangular wedges

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Knife or pizza cutter
  • Brush or spray bottle

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that your chips will bake evenly and become perfectly crispy.
  2. Using a knife or a pizza cutter, cut each corn tortilla into 6 triangular wedges. This will give you the classic chip shape.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the avocado oil, garlic powder, chipotle chili powder, and salt. Stir well to create a flavorful oil mixture that will coat the chips.
  4. Add the tortilla wedges to the bowl and gently toss them in the oil mixture until they are evenly coated. Make sure each chip gets a nice amount of the seasoning blend for maximum flavor.
  5. Spread the seasoned tortilla wedges in a single layer on a baking sheet. Ensure they are not overlapping to allow for even baking.
  6. Bake the tortilla chips in the preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on them as baking times may vary based on your oven.
  7. Once baked, remove the chips from the oven and sprinkle with additional salt if desired. Allow them to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Don't overcrowd the baking sheet; this can lead to uneven cooking and soggy chips.
  • Keep an eye on the chips while they bake, as they can go from perfectly crisp to burnt quickly.
  • Let the chips cool completely before storing them; this helps them maintain their crispness.
