Ingredients

  • 1 can refried beans (15 to 16 ounces)
  • 1 jar chunky salsa (mild or medium, 16 ounces)
  • 1 container guacamole (13 ounces)
  • 1 container sour cream (16 ounces)
  • 1 package taco seasoning (1 ounce)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese or a Mexican blend
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro (optional)
  • to taste Tortilla chips for serving

Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking dish or serving platter
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Start by opening the can of refried beans. Spread the refried beans evenly across the bottom of your baking dish. This will be your first layer, providing a hearty base.
  2. Next, spoon the chunky salsa over the refried beans. Make sure to spread it evenly, covering the beans entirely. The salsa adds a refreshing kick that complements the creamy beans.
  3. Now, take your guacamole and spread it gently over the salsa layer. If you’re using store-bought guacamole, it should be easy to spread. This will be your third layer, adding richness to the dip.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the sour cream with the taco seasoning. Stir until well blended. Spread this mixture over the guacamole layer, creating a creamy and flavorful fourth layer.
  5. Sprinkle the freshly shredded sharp Cheddar cheese or Mexican blend evenly on top of the sour cream layer. The cheese will melt slightly if you choose to warm the dip, adding delicious flavor.
  6. Next, add a layer of sliced black olives followed by the thinly sliced green onions. These toppings not only add flavor but also a pop of color to your dip.
  7. If you enjoy the fresh taste of cilantro, sprinkle the chopped cilantro on top of the dip for an extra burst of flavor. This step is optional but highly recommended.

Notes

  • Don’t rush the layers; take your time to spread each one evenly for a beautiful presentation.
  • Use room temperature ingredients for easier spreading, especially the guacamole and sour cream.
  • Cover any leftovers with plastic wrap or transfer to an airtight container. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
