Ingredients

  • 14 oz extra-firm tofu (pressed)
  • 1/4 cup tamari
  • 1 Tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Sliced green onion and chives (for garnish)
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spatula or Tongs

Method

  1. Start by pressing the extra-firm tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and place a heavy object on top (like a skillet or a few cans) for about 15-20 minutes.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the tamari, rice vinegar, pure maple syrup, garlic powder, and onion powder. Whisk until well blended, creating a savory marinade.
  3. Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes or rectangles.
  4. Add the tofu cubes to the marinade, ensuring each piece is well coated. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  5. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  6. Line your baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the marinated tofu in a single layer.
  7. Bake the tofu for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Once baked, let the tofu cool slightly and serve warm, garnished with sesame seeds, sliced green onion, chives, and red pepper flakes.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • Reheat in the oven or an air fryer for best texture.
  • For a low-carb option, serve over leafy greens instead of grains.
