Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2-3 cups all-purpose flour adjust for desired texture
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk or fork
  • Rolling Pin
  • Skillet or griddle
  • Spatula
  • Brush

Method

  1. Start by combining the warm water, instant yeast, and sugar in a mixing bowl. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Once the yeast is activated, add the olive oil, plain yogurt, and egg to the bowl. Whisk everything together until smooth and well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a dough begins to form.
  4. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  6. As the dough rises, heat your skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  7. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles. Divide it into 6-8 equal portions and roll each into a ball, then flatten it into an oval or round shape, about ¼ inch thick.
  8. Place the rolled-out naan onto the preheated skillet. Cook for about 1-2 minutes on one side until bubbles form and the bottom is golden brown. Flip it over and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  9. In a small bowl, combine melted butter and minced garlic. Brush the hot naan with this mixture as soon as it comes off the skillet.
  10. Serve your Easy Naan Bread warm, alongside your favorite dips, curries, or simply as a delicious snack.

Notes

  • For a more authentic flavor, consider adding a pinch of cumin or coriander to the dough.
  • If you're short on time, skip the rising time by using a warm oven to speed up the process.
  • Experiment with different toppings, like sesame seeds or fresh herbs, for a unique twist.
