Ingredients

  • 5 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 cup light soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons dark soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha sauce
  • 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons red Thai chile or jalapeño, seeded and thinly sliced

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk or fork
  • Measuring spoons
  • Knife and cutting board

Method

  1. Gather all the ingredients measured and ready to go for a smooth process.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the rice vinegar, light soy sauce, and dark soy sauce. Whisk until well combined.
  3. Add the warm water and sugar to the mixture. Continue whisking until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  4. Stir in sesame oil, Sriracha sauce, minced ginger, and minced garlic. Mix well to incorporate all flavors.
  5. Fold in the thinly sliced red Thai chile or jalapeño for an extra layer of heat and color.
  6. Taste the sauce and adjust flavors as desired—add more sugar for sweetness, Sriracha for heat, or vinegar for tanginess.
  7. Serve immediately or let it sit to allow flavors to meld. If storing, transfer to an airtight container.

Notes

  • Store the sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • Leave out fresh herbs or chiles until just before serving to maintain freshness.
  • Give the sauce a good stir or shake before serving, as some ingredients may settle.
