Ingredients
  

  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast (or 1 packet)
  • 2 cups warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar plus a pinch
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 5 to 6 cups bread flour (or all-purpose flour)

  • Clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap
  • Loaf pan

Method
 

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Once the yeast is activated, add the salt and vegetable oil to the mixture. Gradually stir in 5 cups of bread flour, one cup at a time.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it for about 8 to 10 minutes.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1.5 hours.
  5. Once risen, punch it down gently. Turn it out onto a floured surface and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan.
  6. Cover the loaf pan with a towel and let it rise again for about 30 to 45 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Once risen, bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Store bread at room temperature in a bread box for up to 3 days.
  • For longer storage, freeze slices in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
  • Brush the top with melted butter for added flavor.
