Ingredients

  • 1 quart water
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 bag frozen broccoli (typically 12 to 16 ounces)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • More salt and pepper to taste

Equipment

  • Large Pot
  • Colander
  • Measuring spoons
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Serving bowl

Method

  1. Start by filling a large pot with 1 quart of water. Place it on the stove over high heat and bring it to a rolling boil.
  2. Once the water is boiling, carefully add the bag of frozen broccoli to the pot.
  3. Add 1 teaspoon of kosher salt to the boiling water to help season the broccoli.
  4. Allow the broccoli to boil for about 3 to 5 minutes until tender yet still bright green.
  5. Use a colander to drain the broccoli thoroughly. Be careful as the steam will be hot!
  6. Return the drained broccoli to the pot (off the heat) and add 4 tablespoons of butter, 1 teaspoon of ground black pepper, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 2 tablespoons of soy sauce. Toss until well coated.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt and pepper if needed.
  8. Transfer the seasoned broccoli to a serving bowl and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a fresh twist, add lemon zest and fresh herbs.
  • Mix in cherry tomatoes and feta cheese for a Mediterranean flair.
