Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (15 ounces)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 cups heavy cream Use more as needed for consistency.

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk
  • Pastry cutter or fork
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). This high temperature is crucial for achieving flaky and golden-brown biscuits.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the heavy cream. Use a fork or a pastry cutter to gently mix the cream into the flour mixture.
  4. If the dough appears too dry, add a little more heavy cream, a tablespoon at a time, until it comes together.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick. Cut out biscuits of your preferred size.
  6. Place the cut biscuits onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, ensuring they are close together but not touching. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Once baked, remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack. Serve warm with butter, honey, or your favorite jam.

Notes

  • For a whole grain option, substitute half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour.
  • Add herbs like rosemary or thyme for a savory twist.
  • Incorporate shredded cheese into the dough for cheesy biscuits.
