Ingredients

For the Chips:
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (I used cheddar)
  • 1 tablespoon parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Parchment paper (for baking)
  • Cooking spray (optional, for easy removal)

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Oven
  • Grater

Method

Directions:
  1. Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). This temperature is perfect for achieving crispy cheese chips without burning them.
  2. Step 2: Prepare Your Baking Sheet
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. This step is crucial as it prevents the cheese from sticking to the pan and allows for easy removal of the chips once they’re baked.
  3. Step 3: Mix the Cheeses
In a medium bowl, combine the shredded cheese and parmesan cheese (if using). Mix well to ensure that the parmesan is evenly distributed throughout the cheddar.
  4. Step 4: Form the Chips
Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of the cheese mixture and place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each mound. Gently flatten each mound into a thin circle. The thinner you make them, the crispier they’ll become!
  5. Step 5: Bake the Chips
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the cheese is bubbling. Keep a close eye on them, as oven times may vary.
  6. Step 6: Cool and Enjoy
Once baked, remove the chips from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes. They will crisp up even more as they cool. Carefully lift them off the parchment paper and serve immediately or store for later!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, sprinkle some garlic powder or cayenne pepper on the cheese before baking.
  • If you prefer thicker chips, adjust the baking time accordingly, but be aware that they may take longer to crisp up.
  • Make sure not to overcrowd the baking sheet; this allows for even cooking and crispiness.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container for freshness, but they’re best enjoyed the day they are made.
