Instructions:
- Start by rinsing the white fish fillets and patting them dry with paper towels. This will help the coating adhere better. Cut the fish into sandwich-sized portions.
- In one bowl, combine the flour, salt, and pepper. In another bowl, beat the egg. In a third bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs. This will be your breading assembly line.
- Dip each piece of fish first in the flour mixture, then in the egg, and finally coat it generously with the panko breadcrumbs. Make sure each piece is well-coated for that satisfying crunch!
- Heat your large frying pan over medium-high heat and spray with oil. Once hot, add the breaded fish pieces carefully. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the pan and let them drain on paper towels.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, dill pickle, parsley, capers, lemon juice, sugar, and salt. Stir until well mixed. This sauce is going to take your sandwich to the next level!
- Toast the hamburger or brioche buns lightly in the same pan or in a toaster. Spread a generous amount of tartar sauce on the bottom half of each bun. Place a piece of fried fish on top, add a slice of cheddar cheese, and finish with the top bun.
- Serve your McDonalds Fish Sandwich Copycat with your favorite sides such as fries or a fresh salad. Take a bite and enjoy the crispy, creamy flavors that remind you of your favorite fast-food treat!
Notes
- For a low-carb option, use almond flour instead of panko breadcrumbs.
- Leftover fish can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
- Reheat fish in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes for crispiness.
