Mongolian Beef Recipe

Ingredients
  

For the Beef:
  • 1 pound flank steak thinly sliced across the grain
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup vegetable oil for frying
  • 2 green onions thinly sliced
For the Sauce:
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce the base of the sauce
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar adds sweetness
  • 1/2 cup water to create the sauce
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic for flavor
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger minced
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil or vegetable oil for flavor
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds for garnish

Method
 

Cooking Instructions:
  1. Start by slicing the flank steak thinly across the grain. Place the beef in a mixing bowl and sprinkle the cornstarch over it. Toss well and let sit for about 15 minutes.
  2. In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot.
  3. Add the beef to the skillet in batches, frying for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, remove excess oil, leaving about 1 tablespoon. Add the garlic and ginger, stirring for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add soy sauce, dark brown sugar, and water. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Return the beef to the skillet, tossing in the sauce. Add green onions and cook for an additional minute.
  6. Drizzle with sesame oil and toss again. Sprinkle with sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

  • Use gluten-free soy sauce for a gluten-free version.
  • Ensure beef is sliced against the grain for tenderness.
  • Fry in batches to maintain crispy texture.
