  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey The main protein source; choose your favorite!
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese Adds a salty, savory depth to the meatballs.
  • ½ cup chopped fresh herbs A mix of parsley and basil brings freshness and color.
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs Helps to absorb moisture and add structure to the meatballs.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Enhances the garlic flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil Adds extra herbal notes.
  • to taste Kosher salt Essential seasoning.
  • to taste pepper Essential seasoning.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For cooking the meatballs and adding flavor.
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce The perfect accompaniment to your meatballs.

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Baking sheet
  • Large skillet
  • Wooden spoon or spatula

Method

  1. Step 1: Preheat the Oven. Start by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). This ensures the meatballs cook evenly and develop a beautiful golden brown exterior.
  2. Step 2: Prepare the Meatball Mixture. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, minced garlic, ground beef or turkey, Parmesan cheese, chopped herbs, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Use your hands or a spatula to mix everything until well combined. Be careful not to overwork the mixture, as this can lead to tough meatballs.
  3. Step 3: Form the Meatballs. Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs about the size of a golf ball. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  4. Step 4: Bake the Meatballs. Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until they are cooked through and golden brown on the outside.
  5. Step 5: Simmer in Marinara Sauce. While the meatballs are baking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the meatballs are done, carefully transfer them to the skillet and pour the marinara sauce over them. Let them simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  6. Step 6: Serve and Enjoy. Serve the meatballs hot, topped with extra Parmesan cheese and fresh herbs. Enjoy them over pasta, in a sub, or on their own with a side salad!

Notes

  • Leftover meatballs can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • To freeze, allow the meatballs to cool completely, then place them in a single layer on a baking sheet. Once frozen, transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or container. They can be frozen for up to 3 months.
  • To reheat, simply simmer in marinara sauce until heated through or bake in the oven at 350°F (175°C) until warm.
