Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp butter for a rich, creamy base
  • 1 cup orzo the star of the dish
  • 3 cups chicken broth adds depth and savory notes
  • 1 tsp garlic powder for a subtle hint of garlic
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese brings creaminess and a nutty flavor
  • 2 Tbsp chopped fresh basil for a fresh, aromatic finish
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Equipment

  • Medium-sized pot
  • Wooden spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Serving dish

Method

  1. In a medium-sized pot, melt the 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Allow it to bubble gently without browning.
  2. Once the butter is melted, add 1 cup of orzo to the pot. Stir the orzo in the butter for about 1-2 minutes, allowing it to toast slightly and soak up that rich flavor.
  3. Carefully pour in 3 cups of chicken broth. Stir in 1 teaspoon of garlic powder along with salt and pepper to taste. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
  4. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Let it simmer for about 10-12 minutes, or until the orzo is tender and has absorbed most of the broth. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  5. When the orzo is cooked, remove the pot from heat. Stir in 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese and 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh basil. Mix until the cheese is melted and everything is well combined.
  6. Give your Parmesan Basil Orzo a taste and adjust the seasoning with more salt and pepper if needed.
  7. Spoon the orzo into a serving dish, garnish with a few extra basil leaves if desired, and serve immediately. Enjoy the comforting flavors and delightful textures of this dish!

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat with a splash of chicken broth or water to restore creaminess.
  • Feel free to add seasonal ingredients like peas or cherry tomatoes for variation.
