Preparation Steps:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- If your Texas toast is not pre-sliced, cut it into thick slices, about 1 inch thick.
- Place the slices of Texas toast in the custard mixture, ensuring that each slice is coated well. Let them soak for about 5-10 minutes.
- In a skillet or griddle, melt the softened butter over medium heat. Make sure the skillet is hot before adding the soaked bread.
- Carefully place the soaked Texas toast slices onto the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown.
- Once cooked, sprinkle the remaining brown sugar and cinnamon mixture on top of the French toast while it’s still warm.
- Transfer the Texas Toast French Toast to a serving platter and dust with powdered sugar. Serve warm with your favorite toppings.
Notes
- For a richer custard, add a splash of heavy cream.
- Experiment with flavors by adding citrus zest or a splash of liqueur.
- Longer soaking time enhances texture; don't rush it.
- This recipe can be easily doubled or halved.
