Ingredients

  • 1 pound room temperature unsalted butter
  • 8 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream more if needed

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Electric mixer
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Piping Bags and Tips

Method

  1. Before you start, make sure your unsalted butter is at room temperature. Measure out all your ingredients so you have them ready to go.
  2. In your mixing bowl, add the room temperature unsalted butter. Using your electric mixer, beat the butter on medium speed until it’s light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Gradually add the powdered sugar to the creamed butter, mixing on low speed to avoid a sugar cloud. Once all the sugar is incorporated, increase to medium speed and beat until combined.
  4. Pour in the vanilla extract and add a pinch of salt. Mix on medium speed until everything is well combined.
  5. Add the heavy whipping cream. Beat on medium-high speed for about 2-3 minutes until the frosting is light and fluffy. Adjust consistency by adding more cream if needed.
  6. Taste your buttercream and adjust the flavor if needed. You can add more vanilla or a pinch more salt if you prefer. Mix until well combined.
