Ingredients

For the Filling:
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil for sautéing
  • 1 large yellow onion sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper cut into strips
  • 1 green bell pepper cut into strips
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 pound ground turkey meat the star protein
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder for flavor
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin for depth
  • 1 teaspoon paprika for mild flavor
  • Salt to taste
  • Butter leaf lettuce rinsed and patted dry
  • Cheese and other toppings optional

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Measuring spoons
  • Spatula

Method

Cooking Steps
  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced yellow onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes, or until it begins to soften. Add the red and green bell peppers along with the minced garlic. Continue to cook until the vegetables are tender and fragrant, about another 5 minutes.
  2. Push the sautéed vegetables to one side of the skillet. In the other side, add the ground turkey meat. Break it up with a spatula and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Stir everything together once the turkey is cooked through.
  3. Sprinkle in the chili powder, ground cumin, paprika, and salt. Mix well to ensure the turkey and vegetables are evenly coated in the spices. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  4. While the turkey mixture is cooking, prepare your butter leaf lettuce by rinsing it gently under cold water and patting it dry with a paper towel. Carefully separate the leaves, making sure to keep them whole for wrapping.
  5. To serve, spoon a generous amount of the turkey and vegetable mixture into each lettuce leaf. Top with your choice of shredded cheese, diced tomatoes, avocado, sour cream, or any other favorite toppings.

Notes

  • Store leftover turkey mixture in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
  • Keep lettuce separate to maintain crunchiness until serving.
  • Reheat turkey filling before assembling wraps for best taste.
